Types of Copyediting

 

1. Basic Copyediting

2. Line Editing

3. Stylistic Editing

4. Content Editing

Focus: Evaluate the manuscript’s content for clarity, coherence, and logical flow. Address plot holes, character development, and thematic elements in fiction and ensure logical argumentation and clear presentation in nonfiction.

Suitable for: Authors needing a thorough review of their manuscript’s content and structure.

 

5. Developmental Editing

Focus: Provide extensive feedback on the manuscript’s overall structure, content development, and narrative flow. Suggests major revisions and improvements to plot, character arcs, and thematic elements.

6. Substantive Editing

Focus: Combines elements of content and developmental editing with detailed attention to every aspect of the manuscript. Addresses stylistic elements, strengthens arguments, and ensures logical progression.

Suitable for: Authors looking for a comprehensive edit that transforms their manuscript into a polished final product.

 

7. Proofreading

Focus: Corrects minor errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and formatting. Ensures the manuscript is error-free before publication.

Suitable for: Authors who need a final check of their manuscript to catch any remaining errors.

 

Pricing Structure

For manuscripts, 250 words per page and up to 500* pages.  

 

  1. Basic Copyediting: $1.25 per page or half a cent per word

  2. Line Editing: $2.50 per page or 1 cent per word

  3. Stylistic Editing: $4 per page or 1.6 cents per word

  4. Content Editing: $6 per page or 2.4 cents per word

  5. Developmental Editing: $7.50 per page or 3 cents per word

  6. Substantive Editing: $10 per page or 4 cents per word

  7. Proofreading: $1.00 per page or 0.4 cents per word
